Wednesday Workout: Free Dumbbell Workout Videos

Wednesday, September 10, 2014

Everyone and their moms has been preaching the gospel re: adding weights to your workout routine. Not gonna lie, I've been hesitant to get on the bandwagon because of a few little things:

1. Weights cost money, I don't have money. And assuming I get stronger I need to buy more weights right?

2. I feel like weight-lifting is a like a secret club with a secret language. I live with a guy who played college football and when I mentioned wanting to add weights to my workouts he started speaking said other language (oh yeah totally just add in a few dead lift squat press back sweeps you'll like it)

3. Where would I even START? Like would I just sit in the basement and do some bicep curls and tricep dips (the only 2 moves I know) after HIIT? I just, what?

A few weeks ago I mentioned doing Fitness Blender's 5 Day Challenge, and lo and behold my old workout buddies Daniel and Kelli (Daniel and Kelli if you ever read this I swear I'm not creepy) whipped out the dumbbells and just like that, I converted.

Amanda mentioned finding a great deal at Walmart, so I stopped by and found a great deal on this Gold's Gym SpaceSaver 25 lb Single Dumbbell set:
So for $50 I got these weights that range from 5 lbs - 25 lbs. Great deal for my starter self AND it doesn't take up much room in the house.

Here are the videos I'm adding into my routine, of course Fitness Blender and Millionaire Hoy just casually add them into killer workouts:

So tell me: do you do weights? Do you have good resources for videos/workouts/where to buy weights?

  1. I love weight training. Bobybuilding.com has a program called LiveFit Trainer with Jamie Eason and it got me started awhile back when i was learning. It has printouts and everything to track, and videos of how to do the exercises. Oh, and it's free! ;)

  4. Shut. The. Front. Door. I need this. Like right meow. I want to start lifting weights but like you, I was all like wait, what? I was also worried that by lifting weights, my already teensy tiny chest would just concave in (read: no boobs). I'm so over that worry now lol!

  5. Weights are my favorite!!! I will left weights with the bros, I hate cardio! I feel like adding in some weights is the fastest way you will see your body change...no matter how fit you are or are not! So get em bro'! Also, awesome deal and way smarter to get the 5-25 that you got instead of getting them all separate like me. Weights are not cheap!

  6. I love running - but adding in the weight training was such a great boost to my exercise regimen.

But - I learned that once I started lifting - I got HUNGRIER - so, remember to eat for your new muscles!

:) Thanks for your kind comment yesterday.

  9. I love this! Weights are imperative! So many people (girls) are afraid of getting bulky. No way! Weights kick start the metabolism to burn more fat. More muscle=burn more fat. Also=better metabolism.

I used to ONLY lift with NO cardio and had the same fat burning effect by super setting. Except I haven't worked out in almost 2 mths due to an injury. but getting back to you, I love that you found a great deal! Those weights are so versatile and I think it's a great addition to any home.

  12. I to totally believe in weights and have a FULL RACK! Yes we do. And if hand weights are too expensive, those bands would work (they aren't my favorite) but they cost less and can deliver quite a workout. Also, I'm beginning to believe you have a crush on this Millionaire Hoy person. LOL! #wowlinkup
