One of the keys to staying motivated during long runs and killer workouts is good music. Ugh have you ever been in a spin class where you want to die and the instructor is playing folk music? Well I have and it makes everything harder.

Fortunately for me I am marrying a DJ who keeps my iphone stocked with all my requests, plus songs I would never have thought of. These are my go to power players right now, which I also occasionally listen to when I need an extra pick-me-up at work, so listen on!

Ok really 50% of my playlist is Beyonce. I mean. It's Bey.

There are a lot of great free online resources/apps for playlists. The key is to figure out what kind of music gets you hype. For me it's trap and hip hop, for some it's 80's, for others it's country. Once you know what you're looking for you can go somewhere like Panodra or Spotify and type in "hip hop workout" and it will come back with all kinds of results. Here are some good ones:

Spotify (website and app)
Spotify teamed up with sports scientists to analyze over 6 million playlists and compile the ultimate workout playlist. It's essentially every pop song that we've heard over and over, but speaking from personal experience, this list really helps kick up a workout. I tooottallly nerd out over data and stats sooo I'm sold, you can find the list here

OH! One thing I like about Spotify playlists is that you can see how many followers they have, which in my mind is how legit they are. Another cool thing- Spotify is constantly updating their playlists, and you can set it to email you when they do (what is worse than always having the same song come on at mile 3.5). Here are the tops:

  1. Running High Tempo (260,000+ followers)
  2. Power Workout (258,000+ followers)
  3. Cardio (236,000 + followers)
  4. House Workout (160,000+ followers)
  5. Workout (142,000+ followers)

Pandora (website and app)
Their most popular workout stations (**note Pandora hack: need the edited versions of songs? Type in any of these playlists with the word "clean" after. For example "Pop and Hip Hop Power Workout Clean" and it will come back with the radio edited versions of the songs.
  1. Pop and Hip Hop Power Workout
  2. Rap Strength Training
  3. Dance Cardio
  4. Pop Fitness
  5. Hard Rock Strength Training
  6. 80's Cardio

Youtube Playlists (website and app)
Youtube has allll kinds of playlists that are up to an hour long. Some will be playlists of videos, and others are one full hour long video of a music compilation. The playlists of videos have tons of commercials, so I stick with the long video compilation. These are my favs:
  1. Workout Motivation
  2. Best Hard Core Hip Hop Workout HD
  3. Training Music 2013
  4. Cardio Playlist

Soundcloud
  1. Fabs Workout Playlist
  2. Workout Playlist
  3. Workout to Wineglass Running List
  4. Yearmix 2013

fitnessblender.com videos ROCK

For those of us who can't even afford the employee discount at the gym, youtube is our own personal trainer. This is also great for those of us (cough cough like me) who have zero coordination and feel ridiculous in fitness classes. Here is a list of my favorite (and the best obvi) FREE full-length youtube videos that can be done in the tiny space between my bed and dresser with minimal equipment (little handweights at the most). There are lots of short workout videos all over youtube to put together your own workout, these full length videos are good for when I'm low on motivation and I know every time I have to change a video I run the risk of telling myself "Meh you know that was enough for the day..I'm gonna call it quits".

What am I missing? Anyone know of other great youtube resources?

**Speaking of HIIT- I also found youtube Tabata playlists that play 20 seconds of hype music, 10 seconds of chill, 20 seconds hype so you don't have to watch a stopwatch! Cool right??

I'm posting this a day early so everyone can do this workout with me tomorrow (Thanksgiving Eve), before the biggest cheat day of the year, no matter what time you work out. I chose this super-tough HIIT because after HIITing, your body repair cycle goes into major overdrive and stays burning calories for 24 hours after the workout.

I also included the playlist from last week's Wednesday Workout- it's over 90 minutes of hype music, so even though I used it for last week's workout, I can fast forward to about 30 minutes into the mix and still have new music and enough playlist left to do the full hour (and 1000 calories). You can play it from this page or go to the soundcloud website (linked).

Wednesday Workout {Thanksgiving Day Eve BURN with a motivational PLAYLIST}

Tuesday, November 26, 2013

Do the workout routine below, and don't forget the abs at the end to the HYPE workout music below (just press play and it will play right from this page!). This is my running/HIIT mix (made by BF)- hope you enjoy!

*this is a hard HIIT! modify as needed.

5 Minute Ab Challenge:
You should finish up the HIIT right around 30 minutes. Keep the playlist going while you take a 3-5 minute water break (which just happens to be when the moombahton beat kicks in which is a little slower). When the music gets to 36 minutes, get on the ground and do bicycle crunches to the beat- it picks up! Keep the bicycles going for the entire 5 minutes as the beat picks up and feeeelllll the burn!
