Wednesday Workout: Free Jillian Michaels Videos

Wednesday, June 18, 2014

I feel like everyone and their mom has been talking about Jillian Michaels and I finally decided to give in and give it a try. For some reason I  had in my head that her videos wouldn't be a challenge- I think to me she only trains people on Biggest Loser who are exercising for the first time in their life, so I didn't see how I would benefit from her workouts.

So as usual I was pretty wrong. A little right but pretty wrong. Here's my review of the 4 Jillian Michaels videos I did this week (I know, I'm sure if I gave in and just bought the 21 Day Fix or 30 Day Shred it would be a lot more beneficial I just need to be convinced it's worth my precious dollars).

I found these videos free on youtube:

It was hard for me to find videos that weren't soo long. I've been spoiled by HIIT and only needing 30 minutes max to get my workout on. I got pretty bored during the first video (55 minutes!), but it was definitely challenging strength-wise.

The next 2 videos are a part of the 30 Day Shred program. I thought these were challenging strength-wise, but cardio-wise not so much. It was fine though, I added my own cardio moves (jumping lunges, tuck jumps, burpees) into her cardio slots and it was a great workout!

I actually really liked her yoga shred- it's 35 minutes of yoga-fied bodyweight workouts and it was pretty freaking hard! I'm no yoga pro but this seemed more like a workout that kind of incorporates some yoga moves into it, not actually a yoga workout but whatevs, it's a good workout! The only thing I really didn't like were her odd comments ("Who's your daddy, Bea? WHO'S YOUR DADDY, BEA? BEA'S YOUR DADDY!!") that were pretty much non-stop. But hey, Jillian's intense and that's what's bringin her the bread so clearly it's working for some people. Sidenote: I've been trying to start exercising in the mornings and my pre-coffee self does not have patience for Jillian's intensity. Just something to think about..

All in all, they're good workouts and I definitely don't mind modifying what doesn't fit for me!

Have you done Jillian Michaels workout plans? What do you think about them? What is your favorite online fitness resource?

  1. Glad to see most of her workouts working out for you!

I personally don't like her yoga shred because it's a poor version of yoga and more like pilates/barre training, but I do want to try her 30 Day shred. Have you tried Insanity? #wowlinkup

    1. I completely agree that it's not really yoga- I felt like I got a good workout from it though and enjoy it as long as I go into it with the mindset that "this is not yoga" haha

  2. Great job on the yoga! It is the only thing that makes me look like a baby deer taking its first tiny steps. Actually I probably look more like a pony when first walking but you get where I'm coming from. :) Thanks for stopping by my blog. happy to have found yours.

  3. You had me at "free"....I used to do this ab workout by Jillian and my stomach would hurt for days afterwards but she is rather intense. I'm excited there are some longer free videos. I think this would be perfect on a day where I can't get outside

  4. YAY FREE VIDEOS! Love it.

Yeah, the hour long video workouts are.. daunting.. But, I'd do a hour long class.. isn't that just weird?

    :)

  5. Free videos are always great :) I have tried her shred it with weights workout before. It's pretty good - especially if you are just starting out and have no idea what to do with your hand weights.

  6. She's too tough for me work-out wise, but not mentally/emotionally. I've read her book; good stuff!

  7. Hi,
I just hopped by from #wowlinkup Workout Wednesdays to explore your Jillian Michaels videos.
I have searched for her videos on YouTube before. They provide good value especially since she has so many workout programs for sale. I am going to check out her Shred video and see how that feels. All the best, Deborah

  8. I tried the BanishFat one, but have just done it the one time. I did like her 30DS ... if you got to the third installment, I believe you'd see the jumping lunges, burpees (if I remember correctly). I do think these have been on YouTube a while, but sometimes things disappear. I love my PlayOn/PlayLater service, as I can record things from YouTube and have them on my computer (still streaming them to the TV in the gym as I would from YouTube directly) but I just KNOW I have them! I've currently gotten into Zumba, and have created a big playlist of Zumba videos.

  9. I have the 30 day shred and I like it for the most part. Jillian is a little much for me all around. I'm a really awkward person and her awkward comments make me feel embarrassed even at home by myself.
I love a yoga workout! I will definitely be trying it!

  11. I have done Jillian's 30 Day Shred and RIPPED in 30 dvds. She kicks my butt and I like that aspect...but she gets on my nerves and I like Shaun T and some of the other beach body work out people better.

  12. I have all but the Yoga on my YouTube workouts. Recently I have been too busy for her long workouts, and found some cardio videos that are about ten minutes long. This is too short, I have three of them, and will do either two or all of them depending. Stop by my blog where I posted them, followed you here from Workout Wednesdays.

  13. I want to try more of her videos. I've done a couple and they are pretty intense. I've seen the free videos and keep meaning to try them but then I forget and do other workouts instead. I am with you on the 30 minute workouts.

  15. I like her 30 days shred and I kind have altered it to make sure I hit more muscle groups and I added tabatas to the 2 minute cardio portion. You don't have to spend a lot of money to get in shape.
