Wednesday Workout: POWER Playlists

One of the keys to staying motivated during long runs and killer workouts is good music. Ugh have you ever been in a spin class where you want to die and the instructor is playing folk music? Well I have and it makes everything harder.

Fortunately for me I am marrying a DJ who keeps my iphone stocked with all my requests, plus songs I would never have thought of. These are my go to power players right now, which I also occasionally listen to when I need an extra pick-me-up at work, so listen on!

Ok really 50% of my playlist is Beyonce. I mean. It's Bey.

There are a lot of great free online resources/apps for playlists. The key is to figure out what kind of music gets you hype. For me it's trap and hip hop, for some it's 80's, for others it's country. Once you know what you're looking for you can go somewhere like Panodra or Spotify and type in "hip hop workout" and it will come back with all kinds of results. Here are some good ones:

Spotify (website and app)
Spotify teamed up with sports scientists to analyze over 6 million playlists and compile the ultimate workout playlist. It's essentially every pop song that we've heard over and over, but speaking from personal experience, this list really helps kick up a workout. I tooottallly nerd out over data and stats sooo I'm sold, you can find the list here

OH! One thing I like about Spotify playlists is that you can see how many followers they have, which in my mind is how legit they are. Another cool thing- Spotify is constantly updating their playlists, and you can set it to email you when they do (what is worse than always having the same song come on at mile 3.5). Here are the tops:

  1. Running High Tempo (260,000+ followers)
  2. Power Workout (258,000+ followers)
  3. Cardio (236,000 + followers)
  4. House Workout (160,000+ followers)
  5. Workout (142,000+ followers)

Pandora (website and app)
Their most popular workout stations (**note Pandora hack: need the edited versions of songs? Type in any of these playlists with the word "clean" after. For example "Pop and Hip Hop Power Workout Clean" and it will come back with the radio edited versions of the songs.
  1. Pop and Hip Hop Power Workout
  2. Rap Strength Training
  3. Dance Cardio
  4. Pop Fitness
  5. Hard Rock Strength Training
  6. 80's Cardio

Youtube Playlists (website and app)
Youtube has allll kinds of playlists that are up to an hour long. Some will be playlists of videos, and others are one full hour long video of a music compilation. The playlists of videos have tons of commercials, so I stick with the long video compilation. These are my favs:
  1. Workout Motivation
  2. Best Hard Core Hip Hop Workout HD
  3. Training Music 2013
  4. Cardio Playlist

Soundcloud
  1. Fabs Workout Playlist
  2. Workout Playlist
  3. Workout to Wineglass Running List
  4. Yearmix 2013

  15. My husband is a DJ too! Well, he was very actively in to it but then it took a back seat because of his career and well....I am grandma status and can't be hanging out at clubs until 5am anymore...and neither can he. haha. It is always fun to have stuff no one else has though, isn't it?!

I honestly don't know what I would do without Spotify. It is my life line in the car!!!
