2020 Book List

Friday, April 17, 2020

At the beginning of 2020 (I think? tbh time right now is pre-covid and during-covid so all I know is this happened pre-covid) I asked for everyone's favorite books they read in 2019, and am going to try to get through as many as possible in 2020. A hack here is that the 2019 best sellers are much easier to get at the library (aka free) in 2020, plus I've got some time in quarantine to do some reading.

*note: if you can, order from local bookstores - a lot are delivering books via Postmates and other apps! Let's keep our neighbors open! I get most of my e-books and audiobooks from the public library.

My Favorites:

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng (now a show on Hulu so I can play my favorite game where I point out everything the book did better)

Educated by Tara Westover: Tara's incredible memoir of growing up in an impoverished survivalist family and self-educating herself to get into BYU and eventually Harvard and Cambridge.

Winter in Paradise by Elin Hilderbrand: A woman's husband dies in a tragic accident, and her self-investigation uncovers a whole double life he's been leading. Best guilty pleasure.

House of Gold by Natasha Solomons: I love historical fiction, and this story based on the Schwarzchild family through the early 20th century is fantastic.

In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson: Based on the true stories of an American ambassador's family living in Berlin through Hitler's reign.

Crowdsourced via Instagram:

Guilty Pleasures

  1. So many new books for me to check out! I still need to finish out the Crazy Rich Asians series. I like Elin Hilderbrand. She's had some good stuff recently.
